It’s more than fastballs.
Pitcher is the position with the most misconceptions about the size glove they need.
We often hear that pitchers need larger glove to protect themselves from balls hit hard back at them. While a bigger glove might make the coverage area a bit bigger, your player may give up something important.
A bigger glove is harder to move quickly and the ball hit hard up the middle requires very quick movements. Don’t forget that pitchers are also fielders. They need to be able to field the ball cleanly and get it out of their glove quickly.
We would recommend a glove in the 12 to 12½-inch range.
