There are a lot of really smart people involved in the great game of fastpitch softball. It has been my pleasure to learn from many of them. Here is a list compiled from some of those really smart people and published by Denny at Tincher Pitching. I’ve stolen the list but added a few of my own points to their very good article.
So you want to be the coach? Are you coaching because you love the game and have a lot to share? Or are you coaching to insure that your daughter gets to be the star of the team? If you are coaching a team to insure that your daughter gets to play, or play a prime position, or hit in a great spot in the line up you are doing way more harm than good. The kids always know where they stack up.
How about we teach her all we can but allow her to earn her way? She will be much happier being the ninth hitting right fielder on a team where she knows she earned that spot than she will ever be if you protect her from reality. The question is will you be happier?
